Getting Back to My Dance Roots in London

Getting Back to My Dance Roots in London

IMG_2649From the ages of 6 and 14, I was an intense dancer. I usually took one or two classes every day after school, was a part of the ballet company at my studio, and was even on the dance competition team. Then I was told I was too fat, so I stopped dancing a switched to theatre, which is a little more accepting of different body types. But over the years, I've missed dance, especially hip hop and tap, and have longed to go back. I figured with all the free time I have this semester, I should see what London has to offer in terms of dance, and luckily I found Danceworks.

IMG_2641 Tucked off a side road from Oxford Street lies this full functioning dance studio. Their classes range from £6-12 and there's a membership fee you pay before you enter. Since I'm a student, this means paying £2 per time I go, plus whatever the class costs. Tonight I took a hip hop class called "Xpress Yo'Self" from a very talented choreographer who made sure he really worked us. Since I haven't been consistent with my dance for almost 10 years, it was definitely an intense work out, but I really enjoyed myself and hope to go back.

If any current or future Londoners are looking for a place to take an occasional dance class with no obligation to go more than once, definitely check out this place. It's affordable, and they have different membership plans for how often you want to attend classes. They have beginner classes all the way up to advanced.
