The British Independent Film Awards

I figured that from having missed getting an autograph from Benedict Cumberbatch twice now, I'd have to wait awhile before the next chance. Thankfully, I found out about the British Independent Film Awards happening, and then saw the fabulous guest list, and crossed my fingers as I headed down to Old Billingsgate to wait outside the venue to try my luck once again. And guess what? It worked this time! I arrived around 2:15pm, and found there were already about 30 people there. Ten of them were those awful autograph dealers who show up at every event and are quite cruel and pushy to claim their prize. The other twenty were actual fans, so we waited together, swapping lovely stories about previous red carpet events we'd been to, and it was fun. It's actually great to go to these events, even as cold as it turns up being, mostly because everyone there is there for the same reason, which means you already have something in common with them before even opening your mouth to speak. And because this wasn't very advertised, our crowd was small and manageable for when the time came for arrivals.

So many stars showed up to this event, I can't even remember everyone to be able to name them all, but I was happy to at least be in the presence of Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Dame Helen Mirren, Stanley Tucci and so many more. I was absolutely chuffed that Benedict was so lovely and decided to sign as many autographs as he could when he arrived to the awards, so I finally got my long, sought after signature from my second favorite actor (Robert Downey Jr. is my first). Andrew Scott signed my notebook for me as well, which means two Sherlock stars down (now just to get Martin Freeman's! He keeps evading me!). I was dying to get an autograph or a selfie with Emma Thompson, but she didn't come far enough down the line to get to me, but I caught a lovely photograph of her beautiful self before she went inside. My final autograph was from Max Irons (son of actor Jeremy Irons) and after that the show was about to begin, so it was time to go home and warm up. I'm hoping I'll be able to attend events like this myself someday, but until I get invited, I'll be that crazy fan standing outside in the freezing cold.
